A collective of educators and students engages in immersive art- and design-driven practice to reimagine higher-education and primary-school teaching and learning at, and beyond, the University of Teacher Education.

Rooted in curiosity, care and attentiveness to diverse histories and voices, the collective offers open-ended impulses that anyone can adapt, question or extend across a growing constellation of educational hubs.

Method: Snowball Problem-Solving

Overview:

This collaborative exercise surfaces and co-solves the hurdles encountered during unbiased observation and note-taking—centering diverse perspectives and shared ownership.

1. Challenge Capture (5 min):
Each participant writes one observation hurdle or question on a blank A4 sheet—examples: “I wasn’t sure how to record students’ cultural gestures” or “I felt uncertain when notes contradicted my assumptions.”

2. Snowball Toss (2 min):
Crumple your sheet into a “snowball” and toss it into the center. This optional anonymity encourages frank sharing.

3. Pair & Unpack (8 min):
Each person retrieves a random snowball, reads it aloud, and teams up with the snowball’s author (if known) or another volunteer. In pairs, discuss the challenge and propose one actionable approach—drawing on each other’s backgrounds and experiences.

4. Micro-Guide Creation (5 min):
Summarize your solution as a two-sentence tip or mini-protocol. Post these micro-guides on a shared board or digital canvas for the whole group to access.

5. Collective Reflection (5 min):
In plenary, spotlight one or two inventive solutions and consider how they inform an inclusive observation practice—ensuring every voice shapes our shared toolkit.

Cultural & Contextual Sensitivity:
Solutions will vary by context and identity. Honour each contributor’s perspective, maintain confidentiality as needed, and commit to iterating these practices in dialogue with all learners and co-facilitators.
